Located on the edge of the West Pennines moors in Lancashire, we started life in 2009 as a small 3.5 brewers’ barrel plant in the Brewhouse pub in Dunscar Bridge. The whole brewery fitted in one end of the pub behind a glass wall so that customers could watch the brewers producing what they would shortly be drinking.
We initially produced a large range of beers which gained early praise from customer and trade organisations alike, including CAMRA (Campaign For Real Ale). This culminated in our first SIBA award for an ale that is now branded as our Dunscar Bitter.
By 2012 it was clear that more capacity was required, and a new brewing plant was sourced and installed nearby in the former Dunscar Bridge textile processing works.
The new brewery had approximately ten times the capacity of the old one at 27.5 brewers barrel and a new team was built to both perfect the beers and begin to develop the distribution across the northwest.
By 2015 the brewery was now owned by a combination of family members and best mates who set about the task of improving both practices and processes to international standards and improving the taste and consistency of our range of real ales.
Our then head brewer introduced new recipes and he and his team can be proud of the traditional range of beers that were produced with ever improving standards of production and quality control. In 2018 we let loose the Younger brewers to produce their own edgy beers suitable for the growing market of Knowledgeable new connoisseurs of modern craft ales this range “BIG D” launched in the second half of the year and has seen great success from Newcastle to Widnes – an extended Northern Powerhouse!
A typical week sees us producing three-to-four brews a week using the choicest malt and hops sourced from high quality UK based suppliers. Our water comes from the nearby Pennine moors where it filters down through the peat and rocks to give us some of the purest, best quality brewing water in the United Kingdom.
The core ranges consists of a choice of fifteen ales ranging from light blonde ales through to rich stouts and everything in between.
